NOTE: All the pups are placed from this litter, however we are letting Tobias grow out a bit more before deciding if we are keeping him at Pickwick Pugs. (Trying to choose between Tobias from the Ikea Litter, born the same day as Shire Litter, or Goldy/BeBop from the Shire Litter). If we don't end up keeping Tobias, then he will be looking for the perfect companion home around end of November or beginning of December, 2025.

Radiograph on 7/14/25 showed 6 puppies! We have scheduled progesterone testing for Monday AM 7/20/25 and the possibility of a c-section that day, or the following days as progesterone level indicates.
Our delivery from My Pet Carnivore arrived yesterday and Tory was super excited about the chicken backs. It has lots of fat -- Beaver and lamb bones were a hit, too. The "Kangaroo jerky" (a surprise -- freebie of sorts they added) was not a hit lol. She looked at me as if asking, "is this actually food?" ha.
Since the IKEA and Shire litters shared the same D.O.B., I will be sharing some videos that have both pups from litters. The Ikea litter has "double dots" of fingernail polish for ID colors (on the top of their backs, just by tail).
Double Black Dot girl is Sofia, Double Blue Dot boy Tobias, Double Yellow Dot boy is Alex, and Double Orange Dot girl is IKEA. We are calling them our "little Vikings". (A bit of an inside story, but Amy's father, a Swede, just loved learning about the Vikings.)
Here are the pups, just born.

And here are the pups between Day 3-4:
While the Ikea pups are doing great, sadly we lost some pups with the Shire litter. Our thinking is the progesterone was not low enough and the c-section was too early, but there could be a lot of reasons. There is a saying among pug breeders ... 'once pups make it to 3 weeks of age you can take a sigh of relief and rest a little easier." It is natures way of course, but it is still very hard to lose a young neonate. They are so fragile, pure, and dependent. God had other plans for them, and we are grateful for that. We held a memorial service for them and made a video in case it helps anyone else in the future. We also made a "generic" service which could be customized (without Gandalf's name etc.) and here is the link:
As our mentor always says, now it's time to focus on the living! So, we are thankful to report that all IKEA pups and the 2 thriving remaining Shire pups have doubled their weight now. That is an important goal for neonates -- to double birth weight by Day 10 -- so we are very pleased.
In between July 30 and 31 around 2 AM .... Bellies up after gorging at the milk bar!
The little fans help the mamas stay cool .... we keep pups out of the draft. They sleep in the incubator in between feedings for the first couple of weeks and stay nice and warm and regulated. Mamas get pretty hot though when "making milk".
Tory says, "can't I sleep some more? It's 2 AM!"
The pups enjoy ENS protocols each day, plus a novel texture, experience, and scent! The feathers are always a hit!
Eyes open! Transitional Period has begun and NOW the fun begins! They are all doing so well and thriving. Beautiful pugs and very soon (if not already) their ears should open -- we have started "startle response" and once there is a reaction to the sudden noise, we know they can hear.
Some shots of pups 8-9-25 . . . .
Dual licking -- these mamas love having the company. They get along SO well! The pups enjoy the "variety" of milk bars ;) and both mamas are great a cleaning the pups up. We are so proud of them! The only thing they could be better at is NOT siting on the pups. lol. That's why we separate the mom from the pups when we can't oversee.

The Puppy Party was a great success! The pups enjoyed delicious treats and fun -- even got to meet the youth group at church after the party was over -- and the humans enjoyed tea and scones (for the Hobbit theme litter) plus gingersnaps for the IKEA theme pups!
The Ikea and Shire litter pups had their first long car trip (to Chattanooga) and were absolute pros at using the litterbox in their crate! They had fun also at their first camping trip at a KOA (safely in a cabin) and got to see their first campfire. They also had their first 8 week (a couple of days early) photo sessions and got some feedback from others at the dog show.
The pups enjoyed a trip to the Hobbit House and stayed overnight! They got to see chickens and cows and all sorts of new things (safely from afar ;) while being held of course). They also saw the vet and received their first round of vaccinations plus bordatella and Dr. Borden said that they were so healthy he absolutely could not find anything wrong with any of them! (Checked eyes, lungs, joints, heart, looked for hernias etc. etc.) PLUS their fecal was clear! Wahoo and thank you Lord!
And then another trip to a different Hobbit House in North Carolina!
Once the pups were well out of the 10 week fear phase we resumed socialization trips -- in groups and solo adventures. The race is on to meet as many different types of people (and have wonderful, positive experiences) as possible! Different sights, sounds, and novel experiences.
Working on recalls ...
Puppies' 1st fire . . .
Last night time outing for the day ...
1st (of many) outings for the day ....
Socialization -- pups get their own food while we eat human food. Strollers are so awesome!
Sofia - pups have a way of finding the very spots we didn't want them to find. Little independent explorers . . . .
