BLOG
The adventure . . .
We will be updating this blog backwards, with most recent posts on top.
Whitaker (new name Bumi) Pickwick's Heartbeat of the Night Stars
So Gotcha Day for Whitaker was today. It was sad for me because that little squirt had really worked his way under my skin (literally, sometimes, as he loved to bite lol). His new owner is a vet tech who has a passion for agility and is even an agility instructor. Both Whitaker and Griffin "auditioned" to be her pick and, while she loved qualities about each one (they're quite different from each other) it was pretty obvious Whitaker was the one with "the need for speed"! His new name is now Bumi and what an amazing life he has ahead of him. He will be living in Athens, Georgia so be on the lookout for him in agility trials!
Here is his graduation! Here are photos of him living an enriched and exciting life with his awesome mom in Georgia.
Bumi loves doing agility! Here he is August, 2024 winning 1st place!

Griffin Pickwick's Whisper Your Legends
Griffin had to go ahead and graduate along with Whitaker since we weren't sure which boy was going to be the pick for the agility rockstar. Griffin is going to be a rockstar as an amazing companion. He is a lover .... not a biter (ha) .... and just wants to please. He also has the softest and lightest coat and sweetest face. We are just starting the process to find the perfect home for Mr. Griffin.
Here is his graduation video! Griffin holds lots of AKC titles like CGC, Fastcat, and Agility! He lives with Teddy who is out of the Diamond Litter. (Griffin on left, Teddy on Right):
Here are some photos of Griffin on gotcha day, and then from his fabulous life in Auburn, AL with his forever mom and dad.

Jeff renamed Brook "Bridget" as it fit her spunky personality better. We let Bridget grow out as a hopeful show pup but we decided she would be happier as a companion and now lives with a wonderful owner in Birmingham, Alabama. He runs a gym and she gets to hang out and meet all sorts of people. She is a gorgeous pug and we miss her dearly.
Day 14
Eyes are opening and oh my how gorgeous these pups are!

Day 13
Griffin was the first to play peekaboo, with Brook following. Whitaker decided to wait an extra day ;) So far, with each of our litters, the 1st one to peek has been on Day 13 with the rest following over the next day or 2 so this was pretty typical for us.

The longest St Patrick's Day Eve and Day ever! After almost 24 hours of labor, Lilly free whelped 3 beautiful pups. 2 boys and a girl. Sadly, 2 didn't make it (although we did give them names as they were alive but just couldn't revive them enough since the labor had been delayed so long .... names = Carl, a beautiful and perfect boy, and Faith, a beautiful yet small girl). It's a long story but, after 12 hours of stage 1 (so we thought) labor we went to ER vet at around 4 AM. 2 minutes before we get to vet Lilly delivered her first pup in the car. So, we proceed inside anyway and, camping out on the floor at the er with Lilly, she delivered her 2nd and 3rd pup (alas, there was a 4th one ... the "mystery" on the Xray ... which was not fully formed nor alive). So, at this point in ER, we had a beautiful girl and boy. Then, Lilly began a "whelping pause" which is normal, giving the pups a chance to reposition for "round 2". The ER vet said he felt that Lilly would be fine delivering the rest if we headed home since she had done so well up to that point. Since the ER vet closed in 2 hours anyway and the pause would most likely have lasted around that time at least, we wouldn't have had this extra room available after the "Daytime crew" showed up (regular vet office by day, ER by night). So, we headed home. Alas, though, we realized the pause was lasting too long but the ER vet was now closed, and our regular vet wasn't going to be in until 10:30 AM. Once we could, though, we got into our vet and, before she could give the oxytocin shot, Lilly delivered another healthy boy. Knowing there were still 2 more pups inside, and Lilly just being too exhausted now, 24 hours later!), the vet gave 2 oxytocin shots (one didn't have an effect, so a 2nd one a bit later). This helped Lilly to deliver the last 2 (Faith, a beautiful, yet small girl and then Carl, a perfect and handsome boy). They were alive but their heart beats were just too weak. So, alas, they just couldn't get beyond those first few breaths of life on this earth and moved onto a better place. I'm not sure why I felt the need to name the boy "Carl" but, as it turns out, there's a really long story behind this involving our wonderful mentor. Long story short, it is fascinating seeing the Divine play out in this earthly life.
The amazing, Grand Champion Cinmar's Must Be Doing Something Right, (Spyder), lives in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. Since our Lilly lives with us in Alabama, a repro vet and Fedex will be assisting us with the logistics ;). Lilly (and her human mom Amy) did have a chance to meet this amazing boy in person a couple of years ago when they were at a dog show in Vermont. Spyder is not only a Grand Champion in conformation but also completely health tested with a CHIC # AND has agility titles, too! His humans (owner/breeder/handlers) are wonderful people as well. We are SO excited about this litter which has been 'in-the-making' for several years now.
Since the handsome sire lives in the Adirondack Mountains, and since Pickwick Pugs love hiking, woods, and waterfalls, we have decided to name each puppy after a waterfall in the Adirondack Mountains if we are blessed to have puppies. (Fedex and Mother Nature - please oh please throw us a bone!)

Progesterone Testing:
We are so blessed to have a vet who is not only a brachy breed specialist, but also has in-house same day testing for progesterone. This helps us be able to determine exactly when ovulation occurs and, hopefully, time the AI and breeding just right. It also helps us toward the end of the pregnancy to be able to determine the whelp date more precisely. Lilly didn't much like having her blood drawn (we visited the vet 5 times) and Jeff didn't much like the $75 per visit, and we ALL didn't much like how Lilly decided to take her sweet, sweet time pushing everything as close to the holiday weekend as possible lolz (MLK weekend), however it looks like her levels finally started to move up.

Ever since Lilly started her cycle we have been adding important supplements like Folic Acid, Oxymate, Fish Oil, and Probiotics. She recently saw the vet and had a great checkup. She is up-to-date on vaccinations and is so healthy and happy now.
We had hoped to use a stud from Canada for her sister, Princess Buttercup, but the New Year long holiday weekend got in the way of that being a possibility. Perhaps Lilly was trying to be like her sister and wait for another weekend (MLK weekend) but somehow we might be able to sneak this one by -- the snow storms aren't supposed to hit until Sunday/Monday and, hopefully, her progesterone levels will continue to rise so that we can do the AI Saturday, 1/15/22. Oh yes, and hopefully, Fedex will deliver by noon as we insured the package for. Lots of hopefuls but we are hopeful. ;) Here is Spyder at the repro vet in Ballston Spa, New York Friday, 1/14/22:

The temperature there was 20 below (40-45 below with wind chill)! Fedex just barely missed a huge snowstorm. Of course, we tracked this number regularly, and at one point (after it arrived in Memphis, TN, then finally made it to a town in Alabama not too far away, it started heading BACK to Memphis!
That must have been a glitch in the recording somehow, because the shipment arrived in time and our wonderful vet, Dr. Borden, performed the AI. It was a success! All is in God's hands now but we will continue to do our part with providing Lilly with important supplements, a super healthy and appropriate diet, and lots of love and attention.
Valentine's Day Ultra Sound! Lilly had been showing all the signs of pregnancy with her finicky eating, but the ultrasound confirmed 4, and perhaps maybe 5 puppies. We saw some heart beats and so now we are moving forward with her scheduled Radiograph on 3.15.22 and her c-section on 3.16.22 with our fabulous vets at Galleria Animal Clinic.
Click this button to visit our "Puppy Blog" page which will have more regular updates.
If we are blessed to have puppies, here are some names we are considering (all names of waterfalls in the Adirondack Mountains!) . . . of course new owners will most likely want to choose their own call name!
