Anyone who knows us knows that we are always striving to give our pugs (and pug-wannabee-rescue dogs) the best food possible. We have seen such amazing results with our own grumble that we only recommend (and only recommend) the following:
We feed twice a day (breakfast and lunch) for most. (With young puppies, 3 times a day with a small lunch, unless training a lot, then the treats can serve as lunch).
1. Start with a metal bowl (or glass or ceramic, not plastic as this can cause allergies and breakouts):
2. Add a small 1/4 cup pawTree freeze-dried raw and re-hydrate with a bit of water (or broth). Change up the variety (chicken, turkey, beef).
3. After a few minutes to soften, add 1/3 cup (or more or less as suggested) of pawTree dog food. (Vary up the flavor! There are a ton of varieties. We have found that it is totally fine to mix proteins in one meal. We have also found that by varying the types of protein - steak, chicken, turkey, fish etc. - dogs are less likely to develop a sensitivity to one food. Plus, they enjoy variety). (FYI there is WAY too much food in the following photo! and most pugs would eat it ALL lol.)
4. Next, we sprinkle in some Superfood paw pairings. We vary up the flavors.
5. Next we add (for all our dogs, all ages) their daily NuVet vitamin (every breakfast -- not lunch or dinner). We prefer the powder version but some owners like to use the wafers and give one as a treat each day. www.nuvet.com/784795 or call toll free (800) 474-7044. Save 15% with AutoShip.
6. Lastly, we add a squirt of fish oil (at breakfast only).
7. If there are any pugs who need additional supplements (like our seniors, young pups, or mamas) we add them at breakfast and/or supper: seniors, seniors, seniors, pugs needing immune support, reactive rescues, ones who deal with allergies, puppies and mamas). HYDRATE
WATER IS AVAILABLE TO OUR PUGS and DOGS AT ALL TIMES throughout the day. Even at night time (they have a rabbit feeder bottle attached to their crate or puppy X-pen). Again, metal bowls only, or the Rabbit Feeders.
TREATS
The pugs get a handful of treats each day (more when training a lot). We keep them stashed around the house so we can quickly grab one.
TREATS - We only use pawTree Treats (never brands with fillers and junk like Pupperoni or Biljac) AND/OR, (when we have time), treats we have made from real meat (lamb, chicken, liver, beef, gizzards, steak). On occasion, for super high value treats we use cream cheese sometimes with a tiny bit of liverwurst mixed-in. (Used sparingly, and only on rare occasions when we are training a particularly hard behavior or in a touch environment). Same with string cheese (limiting this because sodium is bad for dogs, as well as cow milk and fat).

We only recommend pawTree and Nuvet products. Developed by Veterinarians and nutritionists, and made in USA, the quality is never sacrificed. And it never will be. The food is so fresh and their 100% money-back guarantee pretty much says it all. They honestly stand behind their products.
We believe in these recommendations so much, because we have seen the results first-hand, that we even offer an additional health guarantee in our contract for pugs who have maintained this diet regime recommended above.
Made in the United States with real meat or fish as the first ingredient, it is such a high-quality food that we end up feeding about 30 percent less than we do with other foods. We have found that feeding A high quality dog food pays off in the long run in terms of fewer health problems later in life plus and less vet visits.
