Kasey (new name Lulu) will be living in Memphis with an amazing family who also owns labs. Kasey has one of the softest, clearest, lightest coats and most incredibly beautiful face. She was also the superstar of the temperament test "best overall" so we think she will be able to keep up with the lab(s)!! Our temperament evaluator is an animal behaviorist/trainer who also breeds Golden Retrievers to be therapy dogs. When she says one of our pups has an awesome personality, it is a HUGE compliment. Kasey is a super happy pug and her entire back wags with her tail just like her jolly dad who won over judges' hearts regularly in the ring while getting is AKC championship. Kasey has a gorgeous tail, marvelous angulation, length of neck, and one of the prettiest faces you have ever seen. Oh, and her coat is truly like mink.

Here is Kasey’s graduation. We are sure going to miss this breathtakingly gorgeous girl.
Kasey/Lulu left on Sunday 10-16 with her new parents and longtime pug owners to live in Memphis, TN. She will have 2 human siblings and a Labrador sister for family and get to go to their lake house on weekends and maybe even learn to swim!

Maggie (new name Petunia) is a gorgeous pug who is super (super) smart. We think we found a perfect home for her, though, because her owner is a scientist who lives in Mexico who is also super, super smart ;) Perhaps Maggie/Petunia has met her match! Petunia has the most beautiful face and is put together so beautifully conformation wise. We like to say that Petunia is a "talk to the paw" type pug ... the temperament evaluator dubbed her as "independent". Nevertheless, she is also super loving and still checks in with her humans. To us, she has an 'older soul' versus Kasey who seems like this is her first go around lol. If you ask us, though, "talk to the paw" is what makes a pug a pug!

Petunia did great on her trip from Atlanta airport to San Diego! Her new owner even said that she received many compliments on how well behaved she was!

Olivia will be living in Madison, Alabama ... not too far from where Amy (her breeder) grew up! Olivia's new human mom is a pediatrician and her dad is an engineer who works in downtown Huntsville. (Engineers run in the family so Olivia should fit right in ;) We got to meet Olivia's new sister, a super loving black pug named Piper, at the 6-week puppy party. Since Olivia is a very velcro and loving dog, we are thankful she will have a canine pal to snuggle with. Olivia has the most gorgeous, soft, clear, light coat and one of the sweetest faces of a pug we've ever bred. She has amazing structure and such a nice neck and angles as you notice in her stack photo. Not surprisingly, her future owners fell in love with her when they attended the Puppy Party when the pups were 6 weeks old. Indeed, she's a lover and will be sorely missed when she leaves us.

Here is Olivia’s graduation. She is one of the sweetest and most loving pugs we’ve ever met and we are so very happy she found such a wonderful home. Godspeed little one!
Olivia/Maggie left on Saturday with her new parents and new sister Piper the pug. She will be living in Madison, Alabama, which is only about 2 hours away so we hope to schedule some play dates in the future with Tory!

Victoria (new name Tory) will be staying with us at Pickwick Pugs. We changed her name to Tory because that is how you pronounce the Swedish word Torg which means "square". This describes her beautifully as she is very cobby. Also, the meaning of the name Tory is conqueror or victory, which we feel she will be in the show ring (should she choose to accept the challenge ... Tory is also much like Maggie in the "talk to the paw" spirit lolz). She has a lighter coat and, even though her tail is not as nice as Olivia and Kasey's, she does have a nice tailset and great angles. To be honest, every single puppy in this litter has at one point or another been our pick of the litter. It's such a consistent litter that it really has been one of the toughest ever to choose a pick! But, since we can't keep them all, welcome sweet Tory to our grumble!

Tory's first official show cluster, Atlanta Georgia, at age 6 months. She was bombproof and had so much fun. A natural little show girl! She nailed her stacks and charmed the judges.

The mirror test! 10-3-22
Since its inception in the 1970's, the mirror self-recognition test has been considered be the “gold standard” of determining whether or not a creature possesses self-awareness. Elephants, chimpanzees, and dolphins are among the creatures who have passed, suggesting that these animals have a sense of self. But plenty of other primates, along with highly intelligent creatures like octopuses, are either confused by or totally uninterested in the mirror. It is generally considered that dogs fail this test, however ...... most of our pugs do see themselves in the mirror AND then proceed to walk around the pillar to try to find where this "dog" is located. So, here are the Coffeehouse girls proving my theory that pugs (especially Pickwick pugs!) are smart!
Shopping buddies!
The puppies love going shopping .... today's adventure was the garden section of the Home Depot! Iona (from the Flying Kilt litter) joined the Coffeehouse girls for this adventure. Tomorrow's stop? Field and Stream again and then Dick's.
Here are shots from their morning playtime outside a few days ago and then 9 week (and 8 week) evaluations. They are lightening up and becoming so beautiful in the faces. Their personalities are blossoming and they are all doing so well with training. We really love this litter.

Socialization yesterday (besides going to the vet) was our visit to Brix Pizza for dinner. We were lucky to have the patio to ourselves along with 2 amazing families with super well-behaved and dog savvy children. Even dog-loving restaurant staff joined us in the puppy snuggles. Super opportunity for these beautiful puppies and we are grateful. Highly recommend Brix to anyone in the B'ham area (24 craft beers and decent wine choices with awesome 'deals' throughout the week and amazing food plus great manager. Same manager from the days of Lazio, the locally owned restaurant prior to Brix).
The puppies did GREAT at the vet today for their 2nd round of vaccinations (DHPP, bordatella and microchip). We usually wait until they are 8 weeks old before doing the first round of vaccinations. Because of the horrible outbreak of kennel cough and canine influenza in the Birmingham area, we opted to administer the vaccinations earlier, (at 6 and 9 weeks), instead of our usual protocol, (8 and 11 weeks ... which more closely aligns with Dr. Jean Dodd's recommendations). The outbreak was so bad in Birmingham that they actually closed the Greather Birmingham Humane Society for intake at one point. This is the 3rd time the puppies have been examined by one of our wonderful veterinarians. The first time was at birth after Dr. Williams examined them following their c-section. The 2nd time, (again with the wonderful vet who brought them into this world!) the dr. gave them another thorough examination plus their first round of vaccines and fecal test. For their 2nd round of vaccinations + microchip today, the puppies got to see Dr. Borden (who owns the clinic). It is always nice to hear him say "he can find nothing wrong". They are so super healthy and maturing beautifully. We are so thankful for this litter and will savor the next few weeks as we get them ready to go to their new homes. Here is Olivia with Dr. B's awesome vet tech Amelia . . . . .

On Monday 9/19/22 the pups got to visit the piano studio where they met all sorts of people young and old! The zoomies in the big room after the lessons ended were the best part. These girls are winning hearts everywhere.
Outing to Home Depot and Brix Pizza on 9-16-22 where the manager snuggled with pups and showed them off to customers ;) Those spooky Halloween inflates and robots were no match for these brave pups ;)
Snuggles with Jeff before bedtime 9-15-22 . . . .
Playtime 9-14-22 . . . .
The girls had a spa night before their first round of vaccinations at the vet. They each had a special outfit for the outing ;) Dr. Williams said they were in perfect health and couldn't find anything wrong with them. Jana the vet tech also had to sneak one next door so Dr. Borden could see their ultimate cuteness ;)
Mops' maze! Man these girls rocked the maze! Nothing daunts them. The dollops of brie cheese helped motivate them on the right path ;)
The girls are definitely out of their fear phase. We have to do our outside romps early in the morning because it's so hot in Alabama in August (this video is 8/31/22). They loved their new setup and ramp!
5 weeks can very often (most often) be a "fear phase" so we try to provide safe places for the pups when they are experiencing new things. The Kuranda bed for their outside adventure provides a nice place to hide ;) If only Fall weather would arrive .... it's SO hot and humid.
Busting out of the whelping box!
8-22-22: The pups love this toy so much!
Day 27 - Learning how to walk and swim in gruel
Day 13
As is typical with other Pickwick litters, each of the pups' eyes opened at some point during the day on Day 13. It is always so magical!

Day 11:
4 healthy, gorgeous girls
Date of Birth: 7-22-22, scheduled C-section
Marie Claire is doing well and is such a great mom! The puppies are identified with a small dot of color on the top of their backs near their tails to identify them. We find this is much safer than worrying about being choked with a ribbon or collar.

Monday’s xray showed 4 pups! We had a c section scheduled for Saturday but Marie decided she would like to move up the date a day! Thursday her temp dropped and around 7 pm (Ofcourse after vet closed) she began panting nonstop …. For over 12 hours. It seemed whelp was imminent so I stayed up all night with her “in case”. Progesterone test this morning (Friday) gave us the green light so our amazing vet rescheduled everything so she could have a c section today at 11:30 AM. I will start praying now … Jesus will know my heart even if I’m at a loss for words having not slept a wink. ;) Episcopalian that I am, I love the printed out pre-written prayer (on this website). It’s perfect for now when I’m too tired to use my brain! More to come. If all goes well we will have 4 puppies and we will choose from these names of artists and songs on the XM Coffee Channel station!
These are very special pups as their mother is a half-sister of "Biggie" who won more Best in Shows than any pug in history. (Here is Biggie when he won Westminster Toy Group). Both the mom and dad have the most amazing temperaments, too. The pups (except for our pick who stays with us) will be available to approved homes when they turn 12 weeks of age around October 22, 2022 (or after this date, but not before). If you are interested in being considered as a future owner please complete this inquiry application form. We would really like to find just the perfect homes for them who will treasure them and love them as much as we do. Here is the link the inquiry form:
