In addition to the handmade soaps and candles and paw-painted "masterpieces" by our Painting Pugcassos (scroll down!) we also want to share links to some products that we use regularly and highly recommend.

Pet Safe, eco-friendly Cleaning Products (sometimes we throw kibble or treats on the floor to 'distract' when needing to slip through a door and with these eco-friendly products we know they are not toxic to our cutie pies. We use a steamer mop, too, but with so many dogs living in the house with us we need the cleaning chemicals, too. Sometimes we also use White Vinegar and also Clorox for LAUNDRY and washing dog beds and plush toys, but we ONLY mop the floors with these awesome pet-safe cleaning products. They are not super strong in scent yet they truly neutralize any odors and clean really well.) Additionally, we are supporting animal rescue when we use these products!

Treats (even our finicky pugs love these treats, especially the water buffalo, and we know the ingredients are safe -- we try to avoid treats like Biljac or other treats you find at petstores or Target or Walmart, and we try to avoid any chews or bones not made in the US. In addition to these treats we also dehydrate chicken, chicken gizzards sliced, chicken hearts, livers, chicken paws, sirloin strips etc. when we can find time with our dehydrator. But we always look forward to our autoship of the LA's treats. We go this route over chewy as we know the quality will be consistent. We use Chewy, too, but for our Farmina Kibble (we use this plus Raw ... alternating), toys, crates, sometimes nylabones, kongs, but only Life's Abundance treats.
Food (In addition to the Farmina Ancestral Grains Small Bites kibble, we have used Fromm in the past, and also Life's Abundance small breed which is much fresher because they make it in small batches.) We primarily feed Raw (when we can afford it) and recommend both My Pet Carnivore as well as Raw Paws Pet Food (which can also be ordered on Amazon). The bulk of our raw is also a blend (already the correct proportions of muscle meat, organs, bone etc.) we order from a coop in Texas which delivers in bulk every few months. We give LOTS of raw goat's milk, especially to the puppies until around a year of age and the seniors, but sometimes to all ages as a topper on kibble. Our holistic vet we have used on occasion highly recommends raw goat's milk for all dogs every day.

Supplements (we give each dog a vitamin supplement each day. The type varies (agility for older dogs, and sometimes we will add a squirt of Glucosamine Chondroitin for seniors as well). We have used Springtime vitamins in the past but prefer Life's Abundance because of quality and consistency but ALSO because we are supporting animal rescue.

Plus fish oil each day unless they are having raw fish for dinner that day. We also give esther c to puppies until their growth plates close and probiotics, folic acid, and OxyMate to pregnant mamas which we order on Amazon.) We have found that Life's Abundance fish oil is far superior to what we previously purchased on Amazon or at pet stores.

- Grooming (we use either our own shampoo bar that we make ourselves or this shampoo. On rare occasions, just before a dog show, we use Isle of Dogs Evening Primrose Shampoo which we buy at dog shows. We also like to use a conditioner -- either this one or this one or sometimes just a cheap oatmeal one we find at the store -- because we think it really helps reduce shedding. We also use a metal comb after we wash them, and comb in the conditioner to spread it evenly ... letting it sit 5 minutes ... then we blow dry them using a hair dryer specifically made for dogs. Every day we use this conditioning spray (which we water down) or this one by Isle of Dogs just before a dog show (also watered down, plus we add some Sandlewood Vanilla fragrance to help make the judges notice them ;). We mist the coat always before brushing each pug every morning (or most mornings) with a Boar brush as it can damage a coat to brush when dry, or when very wet. Just a damp misting is ideal. For PUPPIES we use this shampoo. We prefer to dremmel nails and recommend the diamond bit. We rinse eyes with saline solution when needed and clean ears at every bath time with this solution.

Support rescue with every purchase of a paw-painted masterpiece! 100% of proceeds from sales of the Painting Pugcassos' paintings are donated to: pug-rescue or Heaven Can Wait Dog Rescue or Safe Haven No Kill Animal Shelter. From a canvas painting to display on your wall, to a paw-painted tissue box, tote bag, notepad, or even a luxurious bar of handmade soap with a masterpiece tucked inside, you'll find the perfect gift for yourself or your pug loving friends. FYI, only abstract paintings will satisfy the creative genius expression of the Painting Pugcassos and no 2 paintings are alike. Except for Charlie Chaplin who only paints in black and white, the Pugcassos (honestly) choose their own colors SO, if you have color family preferences, make sure to specify.
But Pickwick Pugs ALSO raise money when the EAT, TAKE A BATH, TRAIN with TREATS, take their DAILY VITAMIN and FISH OIL supplement, enjoy their DAILY GROOMING!
Our pugs eat? They support animal rescue group!
Our pugs have a bath? They help rescue neglected animals!
Our pugs enjoy yummy treats while training? They help rescue unwanted animals!
So how do Pickwick Pugs do this?
By using these amazing products!
At Pickwick Pugs we use some amazing Life's Abundance products. From treats, to food, vitamins, fish oil, to shampoo, and eco-friendly pet-safe cleaning products. Every purchase with Life's Abundance helps to rescue neglected and unwanted animals. The non-profit arm of the company, The Dr. Jane Foundation, provides financial support to empower the noble, life-saving efforts of animal rescue groups. Every time we place an order, a contribution is made to Life's Abundance non-profit's grant fund. The bigger your order, the larger the donation! This foundation also provides emergency funding to immediately address the needs that arise from disasters such as floods and fires across the U.S.
Not only do we support animal rescue by using these products but our pugs actually like these treats (usually we have to make our own if we are to incenticize them so it's nice to have found something we can buy that they love), our pugs don't break-out with the "pimples" and red spots on their face when we use these cleaners, our pugs really seem to thrive using their vitamin supplements, we think this fish oil product is far superior to what we used to buy online or at stores, and we love the small bites of the kibble, and the fact that the food is made by a small company in small batches, so the food is fresh and hasn't been sitting in a warehouse or on a store shelf for ages. There have been no recalls of this food in the 20+ years they have been in business and that is largely due to their extensive research, testing, and quality control. Finally, we love that the food has . . . .
- no artificial flavors
- no corn or corn glutens
- no wheat or wheat gluten

Our MOST picky eater, Lilibeth, even loves the antioxidant oats and apple wellness bars (which include apples, peanut butter, honey, oatmeal, brown rice, ground flaxseed, dates, rolled oats, flaxseed oil, eggs, cranberries, and carrots.) Honestly, she never likes these "healthy" type treats from the pet stores, so we love being able to boost her immune system before dog shows and social outings.
As soap makers ourselves, we are pretty particular about scents and ingredients, so we appreciate the amazing fragrance and quality ingredients in Life's Abundance dog shampoos and grooming products. Once we switched to their pet-friendly, eco friendly, nontoxic for pets cleaning products, we stopped seeing those occasional "pimples" irritations on some of the pugs' faces which harsher cleaners like Mr. Clean had caused. Who knew! But since the skin is one of the largest organs, we know the switch to these cleaners is helping our pugs inside and out. These products actually clean just as well as the Lysol and Mr. Clean we used to use, if not better than and they smell great.

We use the agility vitamin formula for our seniors, the wellness for our younger pugs, and the skin and coat for a few of our pugs who have issues "blowing coat". We add the fish oil supplement to all our pugs (except the REALLY young puppies) ... pregnant moms always get the fish oil plus probiotics.
If we don't love a product and don't feel our pugs will thrive and benefit from the product, we don't recommend it. When you have show pugs you can't afford to use a shampoo that creates a lifeless, flat coat, or a food or supplement that doesn't make the coat shine from the inside out. Honestly, we use these amazing products on all of our pugs .... show pugs and rescues .... because we want them to be healthy and beautiful whether they are sitting on the sofa watching TV or strutting around the show ring trying to impress a judge. We honestly find these supplements to be better than what we have previously used and purchased from stores or on Amazon.
The only products we use in addition to the ones found in the shop above are Raw Goat Milk (for puppies and mamas), Pumpkin and Probiotics (for occasional upset tummies), sometimes we dehydrate our own chicken paws and other treats in addition to those we purchase through Life's Abundance (we go through a LOT of treats!), broth for kibble, and sometimes we feed raw or a combination of raw and kibble (i.e. raw for breakfast and kibble for dinner).
