Eyes will soon open and they are growing strong having doubled their weight as desired by Day 10! Honestly, this litter just gets prettier and prettier every day. The pigment, gorgeous faces … these pups melt my heart. It is going to be so challenging choosing our pick of the litter but it’s an important decision …. we went all the way to Scotland to purchase Annie and all the way to Texas and around the country to get our Hill Country boy Robert and then finish his grand championship. What a match, though. The pups’ vet visit earlier this week was excellent - strong hearts, lungs, patellars, hips, clear fecal, and they were troopers for their first round of puppy shots. We’ve hired a behavior trainer to do the temperament evaluations on Monday and can’t wait to hear what she has to say. Then training will begin more in earnest as they each work toward perfecting their skills for their graduations! What fun we had with the 4 puppies at their first puppy party! The humans enjoyed Barbeque and fixin's (of course, Fourth of July), and the pups enjoyed delicious cream cheese and liverwurst balls, and ground chicken with ricotta cheese treats! They are only 5 weeks and 3 days old, but they sure looked good in their 'kilts' lol (though Heather spent most of the time trying to get her giant red tutu off ha). Beautiful Griffin, the last of the Spring puppies to be placed, left yesterday to go to his forever home. It was so hard seeing him go because he truly was such a spectacular pug and representation of the breed. We know he would have become a champion so easily and made a huge contribution to the pug breed but, alas, we can't keep them all, and we decided to keep his sister, Bridget. Griffin is going to such a wonderful home, though, AND he'll be joining his half brother, Teddy who was from the Diamond Litter (same mommy, Lilly, different dads). God speed beautiful Griffin! Be nice to Teddy ;)
Originally named "Noel", we decided to rename her since we kept saying "No" to her lol every time we said her name. Moves great, level topline, beautiful face, aMAzing temperament, pigment .... Scarlett is pretty special we think! Her mother, Stella (Pickwick's Watching the Stars Align), is a half-sister to Biggie the pug who won the toy group at Westminster and who also won more Best in Shows than any pug in history. Her father, Porthos, finished his championship faster than any pug the professional handler who showed him had ever experienced. We are excited to be adding this sweet girl to our grumble and she is fitting right in! |
