Pickwick's As You Wish is officially registered and his new call name is Gus. Most fitting for this spunky boy who is ALL boy and full of personality. Several health tests were ordered today for him (DNA tests for DM, PDE, PKdef etc.) and he has an appointment set next week at the vet for his 2nd round of vaccinations and microchip! Gus is growing up and so beautiful. He enjoyed a trip to the piano studio last week and continues to meet all sorts of people. Since his last store outing was to Dick's, today's outing will be to Home Depot!

And the time for evaluations is finally here!  We are SO in love with Westley and this is going to be such a difficult decision. He has incredible bone (nice stocky legs), amazing front, head size, GORGEOUS face, ear set, amazing tail set and beautiful curl on tail, high on pasterns, great angulation in rear, and an incredibly soft and light coat. There's too much to great stuff to say about him conformation wise. Now, he has also aced his temperament test with FLYING COLORS. The only thing to work on (which is age appropriate, especially for a singleton who never had littermates to "check him") is he really liked flirting with the evaluator by testing his limits with his sharp puppy teeth. So, we will initiate Jaws Protocol Training Program for the next few weeks. lol. Seriously, both evaluators were amazed with this guy. After the temp eval we went to an outdoor restaurant where he was loved and held by at least another 10 strangers. Westley has never met a stranger. Needless to say, after such a full day of adventures, Westley was ready for bed! Here are some excerpts from the temp eval:

Based on his conformation evaluation it is obvious even at this young age that Westley would easily and quickly finish an AKC championship ... perhaps with just one show cluster ... He has a beauty that "stirs the senses" as the famous AKC judge, Dana Cline, described, and he's a charmer. This made our decision even more difficult, but we still feel this is the right decision .... to place Westley as a companion puppy. The reasons being a) we only have one girl (our Annie from Scotland) who we would be able to use him on (who is not closely related ... and we are avoiding tight line-breeding); b) we can't use Westley as a stud for any other breeders, due to restrictions in his sire's contract; c) we can't sell Westley to a show home, due to restrictions in his sire's contract. And, as my friends who helped with evaluation pointed out, the owners we are considering for Westley has earned the right, with all of their involvement with pug rescue over the years, and with their amazing home they provide for their pets, to have a pug as amazing as Westley. Perhaps we sound kennel blind, perhaps blinded because we're so in love since he's a singleton, but honestly everyone who meets Westley is love struck .... both with his personality and his beauty. I'm sure I'll have a few tears today and over the next few weeks. This is going to be a tough pup to part with!

The life of a singleton ... having to make friends with a purse! Seriously, though, Westley has SO much personality. We are so completely in love with this little fellow and can't wait to see how he does on his temperament evaluations in a week.
